At approximately 0200 hours, a cut fiber optic cable was severed causing landline and wireless service interruption in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. Service providers advise this is a statewide problem.
The City of San Francisco has not been affected by this outage, with the exception of internet connectivity experienced within the City and County network. This may also be affecting DSL within city facilities.
911 and 311 telephone services remain in operation with no degradation. Emergency Service radio communications are unaffected. Both services remain in normal and routine operations.
DEM will continue to monitor the telephone outages, internet interruption, and keep in contact with our provider liaisons. Department of Technology is working closely with providers to restore service.
In the event telephone network failure affects 911 service, DEM will issue media release with seven digit emergency number and/or updated instructions on requesting emergency services in City and County.
